The Back to Sleep campaign has made the SIDS rate go down drastically! Experts aren't saying that sleeping on your tummy causes SIDS, but they do say that Back is BEST! :) So when I had my first born it was the only way! The second child even was a back to sleeper! Those parents who told me their infant would only sleep if they were on their tummy were crazy to me! They are an INFANT, you are the ADULT...... naturally they will sleep however you lay them, and pediatricians say back! SIGH!
I eat my words on that! My third child is a tummy sleeper. We went through week 1 of life with no sleep. Week 2 of life with no sleep. Somewhere in there I determined that YES, that boy will sleep soundly on my chest on his stomach, but when I try to ease him into his bed onto his back, the eyes popped open and the crying resumed! I needed my sleep. Week 3 he started sleeping on his tummy for 3 WHOLE HOURS in a row! I never looked back.
How can you argue with a child that you put down like this.....

And moments later looks like this.....

After a few weeks guilt (and glorious sleep), I am now that mom that says, my child will only sleep on his tummy!
